What's your budget?

-RAM at least above 6400 DDR2+
-Processor/MB probably where most of your issues lie with lag, do a lot of research into a good mb, then processors which are supported by it
-Graphics just google how to compare them cause there's a lot to em
-HD this matters for memory access in tight situations; I'd setup two harddrives via raid controller if your MB has that feature; I got a velicoraptor, but they are expensive for the amount of memory so go with raid setup


SLI in my opinion btw isn't worth it, just get one very nice card with plenty of cooling units around it

Wondering if anyone had any suggestions, I am wanting to rebuild my current system.

Current:
AMD Athlon 64 (x2) 6400+
Foxcon A7GM-S
OCZ PC2-6400 (8 gigs)
Nvidea GeForce 9800 GTX+
500 gig Seagate
Asus Xonar DX2 (soundcard)
Coolermaster Hyper 2600R (Heatsync)

Reason I bring this up, is I get a fair amount of lag when around 12+ people, Just got this heatsync assuming that it is a cooling issue. Problem is, i really cant do much with it without changing mobo, and processor, which if i do that, then I have to also lose the ram...
All I can think to do is get a new mobo, and buy another 9800gtx..

Any ideas?
